A Hole in One fails to secure victory at Calliope
by Stoney Creek 3ball Golf
Josh O'Donohue became the first player to score a hole in one at a Stoney Creek 3ball Golf Classic qualifying round on Saturday 16th June a Calliope Country Club.
Josh was partnered with Brendon Barlow and Ricky Dahtler. The group lead the event early with a fine 92 points with Josh O'Donohue having a hole in one on the Par Three 8th, a 148m uphill hole that gifted the team 14 points due to Josh being the highest marker. It did not end there though Josh eagled the 480m par 5 fourteenth hole for a 5 pointer for his first ever eagle on a par 4 or 5 having already eagled the 8th par 3, his team mates could only add an extra 3 points on the 14th. Josh contributed his huge improvement due to having recently bought a fitted set of Titleist AP1 irons and the new Titleist 910 woods. Due to the fit he gained distance and accuracy, having only ever used off the shelf clubs
However the day was not all theirs as lefty Peter Williams lead his team of Tyson Smith and Lochlan Cartwright, needing to use 27 marker Peters drives in the last two holes the finished with 7 & 8 points for a magnificent 96 points.
With both teams qualifying for the regional finals, two other teams finished on 91 and a fifth team on 90 points.
One hundred and two players tee off in what turned out to be an exciting day of golf with local Pro Bill Webb commenting "The Stoney Creek 3ball Golf Classic is a fantastic format and has the potential to become a major national event."
